Motorized Precision was founded in Portland, Oregon, by a team of filmmakers, designers, and engineers who saw the need for a smarter approach to motion control filming. Traditional cinema robotics were complex, expensive, and difficult to use. We set out to change that.

Evolution of MP
SIGNIFICANT MILESTONES
Founding & Vision (2014-2015)
In 2014, Sean Brown envisioned a more intuitive motion control system for filmmakers. Motorized Precision was founded in 2015 to bring that vision to life.
First Breakthrough (2016)
• Our first robot KIRA arrived in January 2016.
• Motorized Precision partners with RED Digital Cinema and debuts Kira 1.0 at NAB 2016.
• The prototype is a major success, leading to the first commercial job: filming Anki Toys' robot commercial.
Expanding the Toolkit (2017-2020)
• Motorized Precision expanded its lineup with KIRA 2.0, MIA, track systems, turntables, and DMX effect triggers.
• In 2019, Motorized Preicison brought motion control to Super Bowl LIII, working with the Los Angeles Rams and New England Patriots.
• Motorized Precision collaborated with GMUNK and VTProDesign on projects that pushed the creative possibilities of motion control.
• During the pandemic, productions turned to Motorized Precision robots to help reduce the number of people needed on set.
Compact Motion Control (2024–2025)
• In 2024, Motorized Precision released NANO Track for KINO and VIGO.
• In February 2025, Motorized Precision launched EVO, a compact, portable cinema robot. The company also expanded MP Studio with a customizable Lite option and a full suite of tools in Pro.
• In June 2025, Motorized Precision introduced slider options for EVO.
Breakout Projects (2016-2017)
• Microsoft’s Surface team selects MP to create the Surface Studio launch video (October 2016), which garners 13M+ views and sets a new visual standard for tech product ads.
• Motorized Precision robots are used in Thor: Ragnarok (2017), inspiring the development of a more portable motion control system: MIA.
• Apple orders Kira 1.0 and a track system in early 2017.
New Robots & Workflows (2021–2023)
• In 2021, Motorized Precision introduced COLOSSUS, its largest and most powerful cinema robot, and expanded into virtual production.
• At Cine Gear Expo in 2022, Motorized Precision unveiled MP AR, giving filmmakers a new way to plan and program robot moves with an iPhone or iPad.
• In 2023, Motorized Precision launched the Modular Track MK II, cutting down set up time and weight, and introduced KINO, a cinema robot powered by a standard wall outlet.
The Next Chapter (2026–Present)
• In September 2026, Motorized Precision debuted EVA at IBC Amsterdam. Its smallest robot yet is designed for smartphones, compact cameras, and gripper setups, and can work alongside larger Motorized Precision robots.
• EVA was named one of Newsshooter’s IBC 2026 Best of Show winners.
